november 15, 2014

welcome to my new blog page. bear with me as i learn to use it and  i hope you find it easier to peruse than the old one.

well here it is mid november and thanksgiving is quickly approaching.  we all seem to be in full swing with christmas gifts on our knitting list, aren’t we?  or perhaps for upcoming craft shows?  speaking of craft shows, thanks to you all for the amazing success of The Work of Our Hands craft show held last friday, november 7 at the lamplighter in delmont.  we had an amazing turnout and our artisans had a fantastic assortment of items from glass to fiber to jewels to watercolors and on and on and on.  we are already planning for next year’s show some time in the beginning of november, so stay tuned.  please note the shop will be CLOSED friday and saturday, november 28 and 29.  please stay home on black friday and shop LOCAL!  on saturday, 11/29 i will be at the Ligonier Country Market christmas show held at the Y in Ligonier.  shop with us!

due to the popularity of our arm knitting class last week, i am adding an encore class to be held on Monday, December 8th at 1.  the cost of the class remains at $25 and includes all materials.  you will be amazed at how quickly you can knit up a gorgeous cowl or scarf!  i posted some of the photos on Facebook but will show them here as well.  sorry still learning the nuances of this blog style.  but you get the gist.  the photos are of my and sheila’s scarves/cowls made in different yarn than what we will be using in the class but it shows you how amazing these simple scarves can look with beautiful yarns, such as Pagewood Farm yarn.

while working on a pattern for a Noro jacket last week, i came across a FANTASTIC you tube for grafting seams.  don’t confuse this with the kitchener stitch, which is also grafting.  this method , using live stitches, showed me how to graft a sleeve together virtually without being able to tell.  the lady’s name is cheryl brunette (funny but she is NOT a brunette) but she has a great way of teaching, soothing voice, and her directions are clear and concise.  she has other videos as well, so definitely give it a look see.  here is the link to the grafting you tube:  since this blog style is new to me, if the link is not highlighted and doesn’t work, type it into your browser or simply look up ‘how to graft your knitting with cheryl brunette’.  you will LOVE this method!

i hope everyone has a wonderful thanksgiving.  don’t forget to SHOP LOCAL.  the Ligonier Country Market Christmas Show is saturday, november 29th at the Y in ligonier; the Log Cabin Christmas in murrysville runs november 28/29/30 and december 5/6/7.  also don’t forget the snowflake showcase at the Greensburg Art Center will be open until december 21st.  EVERYTHING in these shows is made by local artists!  please show your support!
