happy summertime from the stooges!

loads of new yarns and samples await you at RaggZ.  i’ve been knitting like crazy so you can see how my beautiful yarns knit up.  and NO ONE really wants to know how many days are left til Christmas, let alone even THINK about it, but loads of us are already beginning to plan to make items for wonderful hand-made gifts.

such excitement brewing over the second annual Steel Valley Yarn Crawl!  runs from July 31 to August 9.  this includes two weekends for you working girls to get to all eleven wonderfully-different yarn and fiber shops in our area.  bags are available now and supplies are limited, so get to one of the shops before the crawl starts to insure getting the lovely bags, passport, AND 11 tickets which can be used at any of the participating shops.  if you’ve never done a yarn crawl before (myself included), you purchase a bag for $10 which includes the passport and the aforementioned eleven tickets.  when you visit a shop, your passport will be stamped showing you were physically there.  no purchase is necessary at any of the shops but should you purchase something (how can you NOT?), you will receive tickets in a color specifically for THAT shop.  if you spend $25, you get 4 tickets; $50 gets you 10; and $100 gets you 25.  and YES if you spend $200 (WooHOO), you get 50 tickets.  note that these tickets are ONLY good for the shop where you just plunked down the cold hard cash!  (or check/credit of course).  EVERY yarn shop will have THREE baskets available to win.  should you be adventurous and visit ALL eleven shops and get your passport FILLED, turn it in at the last shop you visit and you become eligible for ………. drum roll……………………………….

FIRST GRANDE PRIZE:  ELEVEN $25 gift cards – one from EACH shop!!!!  wowza!

SECOND GRANDE PRIZE:  ELEVEN $10 gift cards – one from EACH shop!

please be patient – some of us newbies have smaller shops and no staff.  i do have some wonderful friends and customers who have volunteered to help out, thankfully.  note the extended hours for the participating shops but realize that these are for the most part NOT their regular hours before OR after the crawl.  i tried to post the photo but it isn’t very readable.

HELPFUL TIDBIT:  BRING ADDRESS LABELS so you don’t have to write on your tickets – makes things go much smoother!  for more details check out the FB page https://www.facebook.com/steelvalleyyarncrawl?fref=ts

i also have info posted on my FB page and you are welcome to contact me with any questions.

new lines of malabrigo  including silky merino, gruesa, mecha and aquarella in colors ranging from the deepest purples to bursts of gold.

also a ton of yarns and needles from skacel (which includes schoppel, haiku, extra klasse, and addi)

MY Facebook friends are aware that i’ve had an addiction the past few weeks for fingerless mitts. i’ve made 4 pair in alpaca (from the alpaca yarn company), one pair in handspun angora, five pair in malabrigo, and two pair in done roving. i have two separate patterns, as you can see from the photos below.  in the fall, i will be teaching a class.  these are great gifts and you will become comfortable working with double pointed needles by the time you are done.

on sunday, july 19th, artist kitty spangler will be holding a workshop here at RaggZ on do it yourself model making.  kitty taught this class at the Pgh Knit & Crochet.  for those of us who missed out, you have a second chance.  Class will run from 10 -4 (bring a lunch) and will cost $40 which includes materials.  See description below:

Show your beautiful knitting or jewelry on a sturdy yet light weight, reusable display form. We’ll use old-school, heavy, brown paper tape, moistened-to-stick as our paper maché. These models can be made for sales or display and are perfect for photographing your fiber or jewelry work. Students complete one form during class: a head for hats and hair pieces, or a short neck and bust for cowls and neck warmers. Your work will look extra special on this neutral-colored display.

MUST pre-register.  contact me to sign up.  class size is limited, so hurry up!

ADDITIONAL UPCOMING CLASSES include beginning knitting, fingerless mitts, bird pods, feltLOOM wall hangings, nature printing, jewelry, flower pounding, color classes, and more!  i’m working on getting them scheduled now.

this is a very busy time for me getting ready for my first yarn crawl (excited and nervous) as well as this being a busy time on the farm baling hay, cleaning stalls, picking cherries and berries, etc….

OH how could i forget.  some time in september i will be hosting MEET AND GREET CLARICE day here at the shop (outside of course).  so plan on visiting our little lady (who just turned one in april).  bring the kids and get your picture taken with her!
