finally getting back to my blog.  although the winter has been milder than usual, it’s been a busy one with new kids being born, frozen water lines, cooking maple syrup, and trying to get ready for the upcoming Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival THIS coming weekend, March 4, 5, and 6!  I will be vending this year and you can find me at booth 84!  please stop by and say hello!

this is the first year the Creative Arts Festival will be held in conjunction with the knit/crochet festival, so it will be double the fun.

WHAT’S NEW at the shop, you ask?  LOTS!

new shades of Schoppel Zauberball Lace so you can make this gorgeous scarf out of JUST ONE SKEIN!

completely new to the shop is TRENDSETTER YARNS!  amazing sparkly long eyelash yarns, yarns with flags, fuzzy yarn with sparkle, and lots lots more!  here’s a photo of just a few of the yarns plus a beautiful scarf knit with Metal and Joy by our own Katie Hellman:

katie wore this scarf to the RaggZ Christmas Tea and it was a huge hit!  4 skeins will give your this amazing accessory!

ALSO completely new to the shop is MEADOWCROFT DYEWORKS YARN!  WOW – the colors say it all.  this is another local dyer who RaggZ supports.  they are based in Avella and the yarns are not only uniquely dyed but uniquely named, like dead pharaoh, porch puddle, einstein on the beach, four-twenty, etc etc!  RaggZ is the ONLY store in this area to carry this amazing yarn and i am really pleased about that.

the sock yarns are super to work with and the silk traveler (30% silk, 70% merino super wash) are like BUTTAH!  the slouch hat comes in a kit with everything matched up for you ready to knit!

JUST RESTOCKED are Wendy Four Legged Friend kits.  you can make an amazing child’s scarf OR backpack featuring a dog, cat, monkey, or sheep.  and the best part?  the animal parts come already made up~!!!

when i had these for sale at the yarn crawl, they sold out THE FIRST DAY!  $18 only!

DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLE BUDDIES!  these adorable little creatures will keep your DPNs together whether you have work on them or not.  locally made in mount lebanon, pa!  about ten different critters including sheep (OF COURSE), whales, chickens, cows, fish, penguins, and more i can’t think of right now.  they have an elastic cord to keep them from getting separated!   i’ve used these in the past and love them and i was lucky to get an order of them in for the shop.

COMING OUT OF HIBERNATION on friday, april 8th!  all these new yarns will be here and much, much more.  prizes, specials, refreshments – you name it!  DONT MISS OUT!  the specials will extend through saturday, april 9th as well.

my first fiber festival!  Saturday April 23 from 10 to 6 at the Delmont Firehall in Delmont, PA.  less than a mile north of the Routes 22/66 interchange.  admission is free, lots of free parking, handicap accessible!  local independent spinners, dyers, farmers, fibers, and accessories.  Herbie, our icelandic mascot, may even attend!

i have made some small changes to my hours.  the biggest change is i will be open EVERY tuesday but i will close at 5 on tuesdays and fridays instead of 6.  i am always available by appointment or can stay if these hours do not work for you.

CLASSES:  dates are being nailed down, but watch for magic loop, stranded color work, beginning knitting, wall art using my feltLOOM, felt bird pod, circle weaving, steeking, dye your own skein of yarn, and more to come.

this year raggz is putting together some field trips, including  but not limited to Stramba Farm.  other plans are in the works but nothing is nailed down yet.

A SPRING TEA!  back by popular demand.  our christmas tea was such a success with people on the waiting list, that i have decided to sponsor a tea this spring.  perhaps in may.  stay tuned for more information.

STASH BUSTER SALE!  only this time, you will be cleaning out YOUR stash, not mine!  this will probably happen in june or july and more details will be given soon.  however, start bagging up yarn, books, needles, even works in progress to bring to the sale.

hope to see you all FIRST at the pittsburgh knit & crochet festival THIS friday/saturday/sunday (march 4, 5, and 6), then at my end of hibernation festival friday/saturday, april 8 and 9.  below are a few random photos of projects i’ve been working on, babies born, etc.
