everyone is saying how quickly summer has faded but personally, i think summer did an about face!  i LOVE fall but i also love the transition into fall.  i’ve had to dig out sweatpants and turtlenecks and turn the heat on at the shop to keep my ladies’ fingers from freezing to their needles!  but our complaints are nothing compared to the hurricanes in Texas and Florida.  i feel so sorry for those folks dealing with this and am eternally thankful that we live in a relatively safe area of the country.

and today is ‘NINE ELEVEN’.  i don’t tend to dwell on negative or sad things but this morning on Facebook someone posted videos taken on ‘that day’ and it made me literally burst into tears.  the thought of what the people in the towers felt – the terror of trying to get out of the buildings – and the worst of all for me was watching people jump from those heights to escape the hell they were facing.  we ALL need to take a moment to reflect on how blessed we are and to say a prayer for the families of those lost on this day sixteen years ago already.  i’m sure you all remember exactly what you were doing when you heard.  it is so vivid in my mind still.

onto a brighter note and back to business…..  this is the busiest time of year for most of us.  fall brings fiber festivals, craft shows, classes, and readying ourselves for the holidays.  i won’t say how many days are left because i really don’t want to know.  but the fact is that people are scurrying to make their loved ones hand made gifts, unless you’re one of those do-gooders who started christmas knitting/crocheting in the spring.  we all know someone like that!

upcoming events

if you look at the ‘classes/events’ tab, you will see the upcoming events for the shop but i’ll briefly list them here.    feltLOOM play dates will be scheduled periodically (one is this wednesday) for you to try out this amazing machine. the classes will allow you time and materials to make a pillow cover or wall hanging.  and if you like it, you can take another class or rent time on the machine and use it yourself.  the second friday of each month is dubbed pot luck friday and we’ve had a great turnout so far and some truly delicious food as well!

sock knitters out there – we are holding an after-thought heel class on saturday september 30th; gifelted fishes on sunday october 8, wet blocking saturday october 14, raggz fiber affair and wool market saturday october 21, the work of our hands artist market friday november 3, eco-dyeing with leaves sunday november 12, lularoe will be here with all of their christmas prints on friday november 17, our second spin in and pot luck will be saturday december 2; and last but not least on sunday december 10 raggz is hosting a christmas luncheon at a restaurant to be announced.   please check out the tab for complete details.  if you are a follower on Facebook, i keep these events listed on the raggz fiber art page as well as the raggz fiber art classes and events page.  you may also already know that i will be demonstrating at the stahlstown flax scutching festival THIS weekend, so the shop will not be open for business.  several of us will be there demonstrating spinning, weaving, etc in building one.  come say hello – the festival is great fun.  wonderful food, music, and flax demonstrations.

as is the norm for any class or event, you must preregister and prepay.

what’s new????

SILK MESH!  yes SILK MESH!  a company in australia had it custom-made and it is to DIE for (or DYE for)!  it is 5.2 mm and is lightweight and completely gorgeous.  great for nuno felters or making it into something all on its own.  i have it available in  several colors and undyed as well.  come and check it out.  supplies are limited.  it runs $25 per yard for the hand dyed and $19 per yard undyed.

i am happy to announce that i now have my very own scent of Dusty Tree hand soap and wool wash!  EXCLUSIVE TO RAGGZ and made especially for us!  GRAPEFRUIT!  it smells so clean and fresh and you can’t get this scent anywhere but here!  Rebecca did a great job and i very much appreciate her hard work and effort!  right now it is available in a foaming pump and wool wash but she will be making me refills for the pump soon.

also new new is lots of Spun Bunny hand-dyed yarns and fibers as well as new colors and kits from Done Roving Yarns.  and speaking of Done Roving Yarns, owner Paula Ferrar told me about inserting a lifeline AS YOU KNIT with the ChiaGoo needles!  what a revelation!  i don’t know if this is a new thing or not but it is new to me and i have used it several times so far on my Pretty Little Shawl pattern.  check out the photo below to see just how easy it is!

lifeline

the yarn also happens to be Done Roving’s Monochromatic Gradient in color way Emerald City.  can’t wait for you to see it all done.  this is the large version of the shawl and i will wear it more like a sweater.  you’ll see…..

tink!

as most of you know, i have adopted yet another stray kitten.  jack went to a great home with Rebecca Hilko Shepler and her wonderful family and now i have TINK.  appropriate for a yarn shop, eh?  but her full name is Tinker Belle.  she was running around up on our farm and i was able to trap her and have now had her for a couple of months.  everyone things i should keep her but they said that about jack too.  so here she is if you havent seen her as of yet:

my other pet who requires no care at all is octopus number 3 who finally got his tentacles finished up and here he is:

orange octohe still needs a name and the contest on Facebook will conclude this friday.  the winner gets a $25 gift certificate to the shop!  so you still have time to enter – one per person on the raggz FB page ONLY.

time to close and get to work.  thanks for your time and hope to see you soon! oh and ps – my lovely daughter is going to be home for a visit between the 18th and 23rd and i’m over the moon excited about it, as i havent seen her since last year in utah!
