BUSY.  that’s how the past couple of months have been.  my apologies for not having posted for TWO months.  i didn’t realize it had been that long.  people who know me or follow me on Facebook see that i’ve been washing fleeces, teaching classes, organizing events, baling hay, etc etc and now getting ready to winterize on the farm and start picking and processing apples.  missed peach season altogether!  darn.  i’ll keep this short and sweet.

PLYMOUTH YARN is here and has finally gotten out of the boxes!  30 different brands, one more gorgeous than the other.  Encore is their biggest seller right now – it is 75% acrylic and 25% wool.  you know i’m not a fan of acrylics but with the addition of wool, they are amazing – soft and washable as well!  must come see what i have.

SHEPHERD’S WOOL is the yarn that Noni calls for in many of her felted bag patterns.  it is made in Michigan and is so soft and wonderful to work with.  i knitted my daughter a pair of mitts with it and have plenty left over to knit myself a pair.  another must see!

TAHKI STACY CHARLES – some additions to their line as well

LOOM – the wonderful silk yarns are here along with a kit for the shifting silk scarf which i have a sample of here at the shop.  what’s better than having a silk scarf around your neck?  it may be light and airy but silk is insulating and good for warm OR cold weather making it super versatile.

shifting silk scarf – 3 silk yarns and pattern included

SATURDAY, 10/17  I LOVE YARN DAY!  unadvertised specials and give-aways during my regular hours of 10 to 2

FRIDAY, 11/6    4th annual Work of Our Hands artist market.  we will again be at the Lamplighter in Delmont from 10 to 7.  the past three years have been amazing and this year proves to be the same, as we have attracted quite a few new vendors.  please stop by and see us and get some Christmas shopping done with gifts that are ALL handmade locally!

SUNDAY, 11/8 AND MONDAY 11/9  yarn tasting!  we had such a good time at the Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet’s yarn tasting last year that i decided to have my own, especially now that i have so many new yarns to choose from.  so grab your needles and head on over to get the opportunity to knit with the new plymouth yarns, shepherd’s wool, tahki stacy charles, and Loom silk yarns.  its fun to knit a swatch with the yarns and see for yourself how they present themselves and how they feel when knitted.  from 1 to 3 each day – space is limited to 10 per day, so call ahead and make your reservation in advance.  if you have a group who would like to come together, i can make a special time for your group.  no cost for this opportunity and refreshments will be served.

SUNDAY, 11/29  RaggZ Christmas Tea at The Victorian Lady of Academy Hill located on Main Street in Greensburg.  from 1 to 4.  festivities start at 1:30 but please try to arrive around 1 so everyone can get settled.  tickets are $30 and include EVERYTHING.  i will be having raffle and door prizes and we will have a fashion show – meaning YOU will participate in the show modeling something you are proud of that you have crocheted, knitted, or felted.  we are also having a hat contest – funniest, most unique, and most fiber oriented.  please hurry if you would like to join us, as i only have about 8 tickets left.  if you’ve never been to this tea shop, you will be amazed at how beautifully decorated it is, the food and service are amazing and i’m sure we will have lots of fun!  contact me for tickets.  (YES this is the weekend after thanksgiving so now it’s your turn to relax and be served!)

DATE TBA:  RAGGZ FIBER MARKET!!  this will be an event similar to the indie knit & spin and will feature local textile artists.  exact date and location are currently being finalized.  suffice it to say it will be either April 23 or April 30th.  these amazing fiber folks need more venues to sell their wares and we should all try to support local!

friday/saturday 11/27 and 28 – thanksgiving holiday

NOTE:  the last day for this year the shop will be open is saturday 12/19.  i am going to suspend my regular hours til spring to give me time to recoup, create, and rest.  the shop is always available for you if you call me in advance but it’s expensive to keep the place heated and keep the parking lot clear during the winter months and most people are on overload from the holidays.  i will be scheduling a couple of play dates and classes – weather permitting.  i’ve heard its going to be a very hard winter and i’ve heard its going to be a very mild winter – so………..??

it’s hard to believe i opened the shop 4 years ago this month!  where does the time go?  i had hoped business would be better after 4 years but it has been slow going.  i’m still learning what i need to do and how to get word out but advertising is so expensive and i have the added drawback of my location; however, the yarn crawl was very good for me not only in terms of sales but all the wonderful people i have met.  i hope to see some of them as repeat customers once their stash starts to dwindle.  i do wish to thank those of you who have stood by me and continually try to help me succeed.  i’m very fortunate to have so many of you in my life.

if you do want to come to the shop or are a newbie, don’t hesitate to call first if you are traveling quite a distance just to make sure of my hours.  i would hate to disappoint you and am trying my best to have the closings advertised on my website, my blog, and mail chimp.  i’m no techie and keeping up with this and trying to learn it all is more time consuming than you think and i swear i’ve lost about 25 IQ points in the past few years.

my apologies for not scheduling a MEET CLARICE! day but it got cold so quickly and the weather is just too unpredictable to plan it and then have it be too cold for people to sit outside with her.  i know she is disappointed as well!

enough said.  below are a few photos relating to things in the body of this blog or related to life in general!

thanks everyone!

sorry folks – mommy won’t let me come down to the shop to play!
this adorable baby hat takes two skeins of mango moon yarns to make and only takes hours! pattern included!

some beautiful hand dyed gradients i purchased in virginia
