After knitting for more than 35 years, I decided that opening a yarn shop would be a fun venture, allowing me to share my love of fiber and knitting. So in 2011, i took the plunge! I wanted to feature only natural yarns and fibers – but at the best prices. Located in the village of Forbes Road, Pennsylvania, Raggz brings original, top-quality fiber and yarn to create beautiful things. As my shop is located next to my own home, my overhead is lower and I am happy to pass the savings on to you.
I offer the best selection of natural fibers and handmade yarns in this area. I am not aware of ANY shops in this area who carry locally made handspun yarns or the selection of fibers that I offer. This feature supports talented textile artists, spinners, and felters. I am proud to be one of the few local yarn shops who carries indie yarns, such as Shirsty Cat, Fibernymph Dye works, Spencer Hill, the PrAiry, A Guy with Two Needles, The Spun Bunny, Youghiogheny Yarns, Meadowcroft Dyeworks, Taylored Fibers, Panorama fiber arts gradients, and more. My goal is to eliminate the bigger mills and feature small, obscure yarn dyers. This year i plan on adding about a half-dozen more indie artists and farmers to my selection but you have to check back to see who it will be! I also strive to carry USA yarns and accessories. And to support these indie businesses even more, i now host a fiber festival called RaggZ fiber affair and wool market every april and october. The venue has been at the Delmont firehall but at some point may be moved to a larger venue.
My store has three spacious rooms routinely replenished with new items. In my over-sized kitchen, you will find a myriad of roving colors, batts, and supplies for needle and wet felters. My fiber vendors include Opulent fibers, Pagewood Farm, The Lavender Fleece, Panorama Fibers, Frabjous Fibers, The Spun Bunny, as well as more local fiber artists.
NEW in 2017, a gift shop has been added in the ‘mud room’. Stop in to check it out! Lots of handmade items including wall hangings, felted sheep items, handmade soaps, socks, jewelry, etc.
Whether interested in taking a class or simply looking to find a new project, I invite everyone to stop in. You will find a relaxing atmosphere and there’s always a fresh pot of home-roasted organic coffee brewing. Yes my hours are limited, but only because i have a 70 acre farm with cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, and bees, so i must make time for them too. i am always happy to be open by appointment if you give me a call!
